What is a King Bed?
Typically, king-sized mattresses can accommodate at least two people, with additional room for small children and even small pets. As the largest mattress among standard sizes, a king-sized mattress is an excellent choice for people who like plenty of space to sleep.
Four factors should be considered when purchasing a king-size bed:
Accessibility
Generally, king-size beds should be used in bedrooms measuring at least 12 feet by 9 feet. Designers recommend that a minimum of 30 inches of space around the bed be provided in a compact room so that people can move past other pieces of furniture. Whenever possible, use a king bed as the focal point of a room that is significantly larger than the recommended minimum (for example, over 16 feet wide) to fill out any remaining space.
Occupants
If you have to share your sleeping space with another person, a king-size mattress is a great choice. For those who will not be sharing a bed with a partner, pet, or young child, a smaller size, you may want to consider a smaller size, such as a twin XL, a full bed, or a queen
Sleeping style
Everyone has a distinct preference when it comes to how much room they prefer to sleep in during the night. King-sized beds (or larger) are ideal for persons who are taller than six feet and who need plenty of space to stretch out or move around during their sleep.
Frame width
Certain king bed frames are three to five inches wider than the mattress to provide enough support for the mattress. Many bed frames, such as panel bed frames, sleigh beds, solid wood frames, footboards or headboards (particularly tufted headboards), storage beds, upholstered beds, wingback beds, hefty box springs, and platform bed frames, take up more space or add additional visible weight. If you have limited floor space, consider purchasing a queen mattress with a slim metal frame, rail frame, or low-profile wood slat frame, which are often smaller in size than the mattress itself, to save on cost.
There are few different styles of king-sized bed frames
Depending on your preferences, you can choose from a variety of king bed frame options, which are commonly constructed of solid wood, pinewood, or engineered wood:
Bed frame with a platform: Mattresses can usually be placed directly on a platform bed frame, without the need for an extra support system such as a box spring or foundation. They are more comfortable because they are lower to the ground and can accommodate any mattress type.
Wood frame with wooden slats: Wood bed frames are easy to customize and generally contain additional support in the form of wooden slats that run the length of the bed's breadth. Wood bed frames are very inexpensive.
Metal bed frame: Even when they are subject to heavier loads, metal bed frames will maintain their durability and reliability for a long time.
Panel bed: The headboard, the base, and the two side panels combine into a four-wall frame to create the panel bed. A plywood panel bed is known for its stability, and it can hold box springs as well as hefty mattresses.
